Are you breaking the law?

After having been in somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 homes in my career I can tell you that I’ve seen it all when it comes to code violations.  Call it Harry Homeowner run amok.  Many of these are related to safety issue so they should all be taken seriously.  In addition there may be implications when it comes time to sell.  However remember that some things that aren’t current code are not really violations as they were code when they were built or added and have since had the standards modified.  Many of those have been grandfathered so they are not violations.  However if you renovate something you will be required to bring the remodeled area into current compliance.

Check out this list of common code violations and if you believe your home is guilty give me a call and I’ll guide you through these sometimes murky waters.
